PURVIS, Miss. --  Debbie Selman, an RN at South Mississippi State Hospital, was recently named the hospital’s fourth quarter Employee of the Quarter.  Selman began work at SMSH in June 2013.
“When something is needed for a patient, whether she is that person’s nurse or not, Debbie will do it without hesitation,” said the co-worker who nominated Selman. “I can ask her to do something and trust that it will be done quickly and efficiently. Debbie’s compassion for others shines through her work daily.”
Selman is a native of Marion County, where she graduated from Columbia High School.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Prior to her work at SMSH, Selman worked at Marion General Hospital Home Health for 18 years and continued there a year after it became a part of Forrest General Home Health.
“Psych nursing is very interesting,” said Selman. “I have the opportunity to work with the patients to achieve goals they have set.”
In her spare time, Selman enjoys spending time with family, traveling when possible and crocheting.
South Mississippi State Hospital (SMSH) is a 50-bed acute care behavioral health program in Purvis that offers mental health treatment and services for adults in the southern part of the state.
