SMSH PATIENT VISITATION STATEMENT:  AT THIS TIME, SOUTH MISSISSIPPI STATE HOSPITAL HAS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED ALL OFF-CAMPUS VISITORS AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE.  IN LIMITING VISITATION, SMSH IS TAKING PRECAUTIONARY STEPS PURELY OUT OF AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE THE CHANCES OF EXPOSURE.​

Support Care Professional (full-time)​

POSITION SUMMARY:  Responsible for working with adults diagnosed with a mental illness. May lead or monitor patient education groups. Document patient activity throughout the day. Provide full-body care when needed. Take vital signs. Observe and assist with recreation therapy. Constantly monitor patient activity. Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED​: High School Diploma (or GED) required. 0-3 years of experience preferred.

Certified Peer Support Specialist (PRN)​

POSITION DESCRIPTION: South Mississippi State Hospital is seeking a Certified Peer Support Specialist to join their established peer support team. Applicant must self-identify as a consumer or former consumer of mental health services and must be doing well in long-term recovery.

The Peer Support Specialist establishes supportive relationships with hospitalized consumers, speaks to groups about recovery skills, and helps consumers to initiate Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP).     

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS​: 
·  High School Diploma or equivalent required
·  Must be a current DMH Certified Peer Support Specialist.
·  Must have demonstrated a minimum of twelve (12) months in self-directed recovery
·  Must have very good verbal and written communication skills
·  Must be able to lead educational group sessions to promote use of recovery skills.
·  Preference given to those certified in Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP), but training can be provided if not already certified.
· Basic computer skills.

Registered Nurse (full-time)​

POSITION SUMMARY:  Provides quality care and treatment to adults diagnosed with mental illness, in an acute-care setting. Implements the nursing process in an organized, systematic manner to include assessment planning, intervention, and evaluation. Actively participates in treatment planning.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED​:  Current Mississippi (or Compact) RN License is required. Experience is not required.

B Shift (3 PM - 11:30 PM)

Licensed Practical Nurse (part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:   Ensures all therapeutic treatments are timely and safely delivered and documented accurately according to policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Serves as medication nurse with the knowledge and ability to administer IM, PO, and SQ medications. Performs medication passes in a timely manner, without excessive medication errors. Serves as backup/support in carrying out RN and Support Care Professional job duties. Maintains understanding of patient de-escalation, as well as the ability to recognize a need for PRN medications. Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED​: Minimum of a standard four-year high school or GED completion and completion of an accredited one-year (thirty(30) semester hour) practical nursing program and licensure. Applicant must attach a valid copy of his/her Mississippi License of Practical Nursing.
