SMSH PATIENT VISITATION STATEMENT:  AT THIS TIME, SOUTH MISSISSIPPI STATE HOSPITAL HAS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED ALL OFF-CAMPUS VISITORS AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE.  IN LIMITING VISITATION, SMSH IS TAKING PRECAUTIONARY STEPS PURELY OUT OF AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE THE CHANCES OF EXPOSURE.​

SOCIAL WORK ASSISTANT (full-time)​

POSITION SUMMARY:  Serves as liaison between patients and families, as well as other disciplines in the hospital and the community. Connect patients to community resources, collaborate with other agencies to overcome barriers to discharge, and decrease need for re-hospitalization. Assist patients with application process for Medicaid, Social Security, and housing programs. Provide consultation to individuals receiving services (and their families) with emphasis on transition planning and collaboration with outpatient providers. Obtain knowledge of placement and treatment resources available to patients after discharge. Participate in trainings to enhance delivery of services. Comply with agency policies, procedures, plans, and decisions (while promoting and supporting high standards of confidentiality). Actively facilitate the accomplishment of SMSH's mission and vision by advocating and working within SMSH's values-based culture. Follow requirements to provide a safe environment for patients and staff. Effectively address challenges related to patient placement and referrals. Access and utilize available internal and external resources to assist patients and treatment team with discharge planning. Demonstrate sound judgment and find solutions when unexpected problems arise. Ensure that all problems encountered are addressed at the appropriate level and communicate relevant information in a timely manner, with accuracy and completeness. Perform other duties as assigned. 

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED​:  A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Social Work or Psychology. 

SKILLS / ABILITIES REQUIRED​:  Ability to work with patients who are seriously mentally ill. Ability to develop trusting relationships with patients, in a manner that encourages the discussion of sensitive topics. Excellent human relations and oral/written communication skills. Culturally competent and ability to work with a diverse population. Professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, and reliability. Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently and accurately. Excellent organization skills. Computer and keyboard skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Access.

WORK SCHEDULE:  Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch.

REGISTERED NURSE (full-time)​

POSITION SUMMARY:  Responsible for providing quality care and treatment to adult psychiatric patients in an acute-care setting. Implement the nursing process in an organized, systematic manner to include assessment planning, intervention and evaluation. Actively participates in treatment planning.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED​:  Current Mississippi RN nursing license.

ACTIVE TREATMENT TECHNICIAN (full-time)​

POSITION SUMMARY:  Responsible for working with adult psychiatric patients in an acute-care setting. Documents patient activity, provides full-body care for patients if needed, takes vital signs, and observes/assists with recreation therapy.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED​:  Must have 30 hours of college -- NO exceptions.

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN (PRN)​

POSITION SUMMARY:  Assists the pharmacist in dispensing prescriptions with accuracy and efficiency. Maintains inventory. Ensures that patients' medical needs are met with the highest quality of care possible. Performs related or similar duties as required.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED​:  Must have 30 earned college credits and one (1) year of related experience. 

CERTIFICATION REQUIRED​:  Incumbent may register with the Board of Pharmacy to be a technician without initially having passed the registration exam; however, a passing score on the registration exam must be obtained within the first year of being a technician. Thereafter, the incumbent must possess and maintain a valid pharmacist technician registration card issued from the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy.

WORK SCHEDULE:  Monday - Friday (as needed), 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch.

PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST / PEER BRIDGER (PRN)​

POSITION SUMMARY:  Responsible for establishing supportive relationships with patients. Utilizes Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) and personal outcome measures to assist in transition from inpatient to community-based care, with the goal of reducing a need for future inpatient treatment. Serves as liaison between patients and outpatient programs. Conducts recovery-oriented educational group sessions and participates in recreation therapies. Serves as role model to peers by demonstrating active and effective use of recovery skills and mental health services. Provides written documentation services.

REQUIREMENTS​:  High School Diploma or equivalent; current DMH Certified Peer Support Specialist certification or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire; minimum of twelve (12) months in self-directed recovery; very good verbal and written communication skills; ability to lead educational group sessions. Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) certification is preferred. 

WORK SCHEDULE:  Three (3) days per week; weekdays worked will be somewhat negotiable.

ALL SMSH EMPLOYEES ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A CURRENT DRIVER'S LICENSE AND PROOF OF AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

SHIFTS:

A Shift:  7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
B Shift:  3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.
C Shift:  11:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m.
Most all administrative and support positions are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
