SMSH PATIENT VISITATION STATEMENT:  AT THIS TIME, SOUTH MISSISSIPPI STATE HOSPITAL HAS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED ALL OFF-CAMPUS VISITORS AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE.  IN LIMITING VISITATION, SMSH IS TAKING PRECAUTIONARY STEPS PURELY OUT OF AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE THE CHANCES OF EXPOSURE.​

SECURITY OFFICER III (full-time)​

POSITION SUMMARY:  No weapon required -- Professional work safeguarding the employees, patients, and property of the hospital. Provides support services to the population of the facility. Monitors the grounds, responds to emergency and security calls, admits and transports patients, and prepares written reports. Other duties as assigned. 

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED​:  Minimum of a standard four-year high school or GED completion and two years of experience related to the described duties. 

WORK SCHEDULE: 11:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m., every other weekend, rotating holidays.

LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE (PRN)

***This is a new position with 3 days of employee availability needed per workweek, but not required***

POSITION SUMMARY:  Ensures all therapeutic treatments are timely and safely delivered and documented accurately according to policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Serves as medication nurse with the knowledge and ability to administer IM, PO, and SQ medications. Performs medication passes in a timely manner, without excessive medication errors. Serves as backup/support in carrying out RN and Active Treatment Technician job duties (see below). Maintains understanding of patient de-escalation, as well as the ability to recognize a need for PRN medications. Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED​:  Minimum of a standard four-year high school or GED completion and completion of an accredited one-year (thirty (30) semester hours) practical nursing program and licensure. Applicant must attach a valid copy of his/her Mississippi License of Practical Nursing.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED​:  Minimum of a standard four-year high school or GED completion and prior experience related to the described duties. In some cases, successful completion of the basic curriculum approved by the Board of Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training may be required.

REGISTERED NURSE (full-time)​

POSITION SUMMARY:  Responsible for providing quality care and treatment to adult psychiatric patients in an acute-care setting. Implement the nursing process in an organized, systematic manner to include assessment planning, intervention and evaluation. Actively participates in treatment planning.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED​:  Current Mississippi RN nursing license.

ACTIVE TREATMENT TECHNICIAN (full-time)​

POSITION SUMMARY:  Responsible for working with adult psychiatric patients in an acute-care setting. Documents patient activity, provides full-body care for patients if needed, takes vital signs, and observes/assists with recreation therapy.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED​:  Must have 30 hours of college -- NO exceptions.

PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST / PEER BRIDGER (PRN)​

POSITION SUMMARY:  Responsible for establishing supportive relationships with patients. Utilizes Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) and personal outcome measures to assist in transition from inpatient to community-based care, with the goal of reducing a need for future inpatient treatment. Serves as liaison between patients and outpatient programs. Conducts recovery-oriented educational group sessions and participates in recreation therapies. Serves as role model to peers by demonstrating active and effective use of recovery skills and mental health services. Provides written documentation services.

REQUIREMENTS​:  High School Diploma or equivalent; current DMH Certified Peer Support Specialist certification or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire; minimum of twelve (12) months in self-directed recovery; very good verbal and written communication skills; ability to lead educational group sessions. Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) certification is preferred. 

WORK SCHEDULE:  Three (3) days per week; weekdays worked will be somewhat negotiable.

ALL SMSH EMPLOYEES ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A CURRENT DRIVER'S LICENSE AND PROOF OF AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

SHIFTS:

A Shift:  7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
B Shift:  3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.
C Shift:  11:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m.
Most all administrative and support positions are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
