South Mississippi State Hospital partnered with Ramey's
Marketplace on May 12 in Purvis and May 15 in Sumrall
by hosting community food drives at local Ramey’s
store locations.
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, these
events provided SMSH staff the opportunity to connect
with community members while sharing information
about mental health and the hospital’s mission, building
relationships, and supporting local families facing food
insecurity.
On May 12, donations collected in Purvis benefited the food pantry at Good Hope Baptist Church.
The food drive continued on May 15 at Ramey’s in Sumrall, with collected items donated to the
Sumrall Methodist Church Food Pantry.
With the support of the residents of Purvis and Sumrall, Ramey’s, and SMSH staff, both food drives were highly successful.
Leslie Brown shared, “The Lord took care of our food pantry! Good Hope is so blessed to have a
community that is so generous. I especially want to thank South MS State Hospital for organizing this
food drive!”
Both food pantries serve individuals and
families experiencing food insecurity by
preparing food boxes and meals for those
in need.
Thank you Ramey’s Marketplace for allowing
SMSH to host this event.
