Melissa Bailey was recently named South Mississippi State Hospital's 2017 second quarter Employee of the Quarter.
Melissa Bailey was recently named South Mississippi State
Hospital’s second quarter 2017 Employee of the Quarter. Bailey came to work at SMSH in July 2011 as
account auditor, having served in the same position previously from February
2008 until August 2010.
“She is an asset in the department,” said Andy Tucker, fiscal
services director. “She is very dependable and very knowledgeable about her
role at SMSH. She goes above and beyond her call of duty when working with
vendors on difficult issues. She has a
big heart and is compassionate about the services we provide at SMSH.”
A Forrest County native and resident, Bailey is a graduate of Forrest
County Agricultural High School. She attended Pearl River Community College for
two years and the University of Southern Mississippi for two years. She has
also completed a broad range of training related to the account auditing
position she holds at SMSH.
Bailey is a member of Friends of SMSH at the organization’s
Emerald level. She has worked in the medical field more than 20 years in
Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.
“The thing I like most about my job is, first and foremost, the
people I work with,” said Bailey. “SMSH is one of the best places I have
worked, and I truly enjoy my job. It is a great honor to receive the award for
Employee of the Quarter; I feel so blessed to work at such a wonderful place.”
In her spare time, Bailey enjoys family time. She considers her
daughters (Shawna, Briana and Kandice) and her grandsons (Peyton and Paxton)
her greatest blessings in life.
Mississippi State Hospital (SMSH) is a 50-bed acute care behavioral health
program in Purvis that offers mental health treatment and services for adults in the southern part of
the state. The hospital’s Friends of SMSH
recognizes an outstanding employee each quarter and provides service pins and
incentive-related supplies and activities for hospital staff as well as needed
services and events for patients. Friends of SMSH is a
volunteer-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting understanding of
mental health and the needs of individuals with mental illness, improving the
quality of life for patients, and providing recognition and support for
